LRWC wrote a letter to the President and Minister of Justice of Turkey seeking the immediate release of human rights lawyers and defenders arbitrarily detained, including Mr. Taner Kılıç, Ms. Özlem Dalkiran, Ms. Idil Eser, and Mr. Gűnal Kurşun, who were sentenced to prison on 3 July 2020. The letter sets out LRWC’s concerns about internationally unlawful convictions and imprisonment of these and hundreds of other human rights lawyers and defenders in Turkey on criminal charges that fail to meet Turkey’s international law obligations under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the European Convention on Human Rights, and other international law instruments.
