Ref. la seguridad del Lawyers’ Rights Watch Canada (LRWC) is an organization that supports lawyers, judges, attorneys, and prosecutors who may be in danger as a result of their work. LRWC defends the professional duties and the rights of lawyers to ensure justice is done.
We have received news from Amnesty International about concerns for the safety of Miriam Garcia and Blanca Guadalupe Lopez, the wives of men who have been detained for allegedly committing the murder of eight young women in Ciudad Jurarez.
We are also very concerned about threats that have been made against the lawyer of one of the detainees, Sergio Dante Amaraz. We urge you to ensure the safety of Sergio Dante Amaraz. We also urge you to conduct a full and impartial investigation into the death of Gustavo Gonzalez Meza, one of the detainees, as well as a full and impartial investigation into the shooting death of Mario Escobedo Anaya, his lawyer.
We understand that the Inter-American Human Commission on Rights has issued protection measures on behalf of Miriam Garcia, Blanca Guadalupe Lopez and Sergio Dante Almaraz. We urge you to ensure these measures are in place.
