To: The Honourable Maxime Bernier, P.C., M.P., Minister of Foreign Affairs

From: Gail Davidson , Executive Director, LRWC

Date: 2007-09-13

The Prime Minister’s office has advised Lawyers Rights Watch Canada (LRWC) that, as the matter raised in our August 13, 2007 correspondence falls within the purview of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, you will be responding.

In anticipation of your response, we are writing to request that you meet with LRWC on this important issue. LRWC requests the opportunity to provide you with some of the legal and factual information regarding the Omar Khadr case that is necessary to determining Canada’s response.

As you may be aware, LRWC is a committee of Canadian jurists promoting the rule of law and adherence to international human rights standards around the world. Our membership includes eminent Canadian jurists with expertise in human rights. For example, the Honourable Claire L’Heureux-Dubé, former justice of the Supreme Court of Canada and Paul Copeland, life bencher of the Law Society of Upper Canada are two of our directors.

We hope to be of service and look forward to hearing from you.
