Joey Doyle | Board of Directors

Joey Doyle is a recent graduate from the Peter A. Allard School of Law (UBC). He is currently completing his articles doing criminal defence and personal injury work and intends to continue doing criminal defence work after he is called to the bar. During law school, Joey worked and volunteered for Lawyers’ Rights Watch Canada, engaging research, writing, and advocacy to support LRWC’s work supporting human rights defenders. In 2017, he attended the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on behalf of LRWC. Joey is interested in the application of international human rights law to domestic law and judicial decision-making, and in particular is interested in the use of human rights standards in

Canada to guarantee and protect dissent against resource extraction and other projects that violate Canada’s obligations to Indigenous peoples. Joey is also interested in assisting LRWC and the volunteer monitors in developing resources to better respond and track situations in which human rights defenders

are under threat. He also hopes to be able to further grow LRWC’s networks with other human rights organizations. Joey is excited to be a part of LRWC’s board in the coming year
