Canada: TWU Removes Community Covenant | News

The Trinity Western University (TWU) Board of Governors voted to remove the mandatory requirement that students sign the Community Covenant as a condition of attendance. The Covenant, which bars sexual intimacy other than between a married heterosexual couple, remains mandatory for TWU faculty and staff. LRWC intervened at the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada to support denial of accreditation of a proposed law school on the basis that the Covenant contravened internationally protected rights to equality and non-discrimination, privacy, rights to hold a belief free from coercion and equal access to the education necessary to be a lawyer.
