AKHTAR BALOCH – Human Rights Advocate

Akhtar Baloch is the coordinator of the Hyderabad office of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP). HRCP reports on human rights violations by the government of Pakistan. On March 23rd 2003 Akhtar Baloch was abducted by five armed men. Mr. Baloch who was released three days later, is alleged to have been subjected to torture during his detention and is still under threat of harm. The abduction of Mr. Baloch appears to have been intended as a reprisal against the HRCP for legitimate criticisms of human rights violations by the government of Pakistan. LRWC has called on Pakistan government authorities to investigate Mr. Baloch’s abduction and ensure his future safety in accordance with the state’s domestic laws and international obligations.
